I was talking about donor insemination with my pastor; I'm worried about bringin a child into this world who will be without a mother and father and am having trouble reconciling that with donor insemination. But then I think about how badly I want a child, and wonder if I'm inherently a selfish being for thinking that way. Is it wrong to deprive a child of a father?
So in my searches, I find that people use "single mother" and "{single mother by choice" interchangeably, especially the faith-based sites I've seen.
They seem to define single motherhood as any circumstances that happen to people, previously in relationships, beyond their control. This usually implies widowed, divorced, abandoned, leaving because of divorce and everything in between. Except making a conscious choice to have a child using donor semen.
I thought I would begin my first post with a question that I've been searching for: are there any single mothers by choice out there who are active members of a faith community? I'm curious as to what kind of support is available for SMC's from a faith-based perspective?
