Shipping Sperm Donor Semen to Canada from America

By SpermCenter - Posted on February 25th, 2010 Thu, 2010-02-25 00:00 | SpermCenter

Most of the larger sperm banks will ship your sperm donor's semen to Canada, and probably some of the smaller ones as well, but it can definitely be a process. It can take anywhere from 1-3 months.

Because Canada requires some tests that aren't required in America, sperm banks who don't have Canadian-compliant sperm donors (meaning the donors have met all Canada's screening requirements) have to be approved by the health ministry.

This doesn't mean you should feel restricted as to which donor you choose, but you will want to make sure the health ministry will make an exception before you move forward:

1) You would have your doctor or fertility clinic send a request to your sperm bank.

2) The sperm bank would then fill out the DSSAP application ( Guidance on Donor Semen Special Access Programme: Alternative Test Requirements), along with other necessary forms needed for processing and approval.

3) The sperm bank would  send it back to your doctor's office or clinic, who would then forward it to the minister of health for approval.

Each sperm bank's process may vary, but this gives you an idea of what's involved.
