Sperm Donor Requirements

Sperm donor requirements vary from sperm bank to sperm bank, but there are some general criteria that most sperm banks follow. These include:

• You must be 18+ to donate sperm
• You can't be over 40 (there have been known to be some rare exceptions, but the keyword here is "rare")
• You have to have a clean lifestyle e.g. no drugs, no unprotected sex with strangers. You will be asked to fill out lifestyle information when you go to a sperm bank
• Your sperm must be free of infectious diseases per FDA regulations
• You must be free of high-risk genetic diseases
• You must complete several physicals
• You will have a semen analysis & lifestyle review (usually every month or so)
• You will be tested for infectious diseases like gonorrhea and chlamydia monthly
• Every few months you will likely get a blood draw for infectious diseases testing and be aske dto update your medical profile
• Every six months or so you may be asked to take another physical and/or be reviewed by the bank's meical director or other genetics professional
