Couples in Turkey who need help to conceive through donor insemination are now no longer allowed to go abroad to get help, according to new legislation introduced by the country's health ministry. Artificial insemination has been banned in Turkey for several years; however, the government is cracking down and appears to have determined to end the practice altogether.
One of the new laws makes it a crime for a Turkish woman to get pregnant via a foreign sperm donor; if she does, it is punishable by one to three years in jail. This regulation has caused shockwaves around the world and our heart goes out to those poor Turkish couples and women. Read more about it here.
